R & D
Operational 93/94 (3 sites)
Ku-Band (SMS) using the Olympus Satellite
Ka-Band using DFS-Kopernikus
Symbol-Synchronous TDMA (The modem was developed by Matra Marconi. An experimental MF-TDMA has also been studied. The FODA/IBEA access scheme was developed by CNUCE.)
2 Mbps TDMA conencted via 384 kbps to H.261 video codecs or optionally CISCO routers with TCP/IP support.
Routed IP from Ethernet using CISCO routers, IP/X.25 was also used in some experiments. FDDI and ATM interfaces have also been studied.
No (Packet interface)
Cambridge Fast Ring used internally. Interfaces using RS-449 (packet), G.703 (stream). ISDN 2B+D also studied.
The system was based upon the SATINE network.
Initial support for G.703 via AAL1 has also been demonstrated. An ATM experiment has also started with ESA ASTP-5 funding and will likely be a part of COST 253 "Efficient Network Interconnection via Satellite".
