R & D of new TDMA modem technology
Prototype being tested at SPAR, and by CNUCE, further R & D. The projects described include many different algorithms and ideas collected from various organisations under COST 226.
N/A. 16 terminals per allocated frequency in prototype - but not fundamental limitation (15000 terminals to be simulated in Jul 95).
Multi-Frequenmcy Symbol Synchronous TDMA with minimal preamble prior to burst. A free-assignment technique is also used to share unused bandwidth, reducing access time to less than the GEO RTT.
2.048 Mbps (2.5 Msymbols/sec) 1/2 rate FEC with 14 byte interleaver over ATM cell header. Various adaptive schemes proposed by CNUCE under the FODA/IBEA project. 128 slots per frame, one frame 24 ms, with a multiframe of 16 frames.

The system allows efficeint use of TDMA, uses an internal cell-like structure based on ATM with a 3-byte routing prefix. Provision is also made for ToS support for real-time traffic using priority in the access scheme.
