vic Videoconferencing Tool

Below are details on the installation and use of the VIC Application.

The vic tools is normally launched by sdr, however it can be launched from the command line using the following syntax.

vic <address>/<port>

where <address> is machine name, or a multicast IP address, and <port> is
the connection identifier (an even number between 1024-65536).

Options: vic [-HPs] [-A nv|ivs|rtp] [-B maxbps] [-C conf]
[-c ed|gray|od|quantize] [-D device] [-d display]
[-f bvc|cellb|h261|jpeg|nv] [-F maxfps] [-I channel]
[-K key ] [-L flowLabel (ip6 only)] [-l (creates log file)]
[-M colormap] [-m mtu] [-N session] [-n atm|ip|ip6|rtip]
[-o clipfile] [-t ttl] [-U interval] [-u script] [-v version]
[-V visual] [-X resource=value] [-j numlayers] dest/port[/fmt/ttl]

vic has a very easy to use graphical interface.

This is the standard vic window showing a thumbnail view, clicking on the thumbnail enlarges it.

This is the vic control interface, this allows the user to select video types, transmit rates and to enable transmission.

Windows

Download the installation application

Follow the installers onscreen prompts

Place the application in the same directory as SDR
(Default C:\Program Files\Mbone)

Linux

Download the vic application

Unzip and untar the vic Application

Ensure the application is in the system path, the recommended location is /usr/local/bin

or

Download the vic rpm package

Install the rpm using your preferred method.

or

Using the Berkley Mash Release

It is advised to perform the following as user “root”

This release contains nsdr, vic and vat. (nsdr is compatible with sdr)

Download the release, unzip and untar.
cd mash-5.2
Run the setup script “./setup”
Follow the onscreen prompts to perform a typical installation
Allow the installer to update the system variables as required
