Darrell Markewitz

Darrell Markewitz is an artisan blacksmith and experimental archaeologist from Ontario, Canada. Darrell has been running the Wareham forge since 1991, located in rural Ontario which combines traditional coal fired forging with more modern welding techniques.

Darrell has expertise in Early Mediaeval and Viking Age work. He has been been involved with living history sites in Central and Eastern Canada and the United States.

Darrell came across to Scottish Scupture Workshop in the North East of Scotland to help run the Turf to Tools project. Turf to Tools worked used classic iron age techniques to forge bloomery iron in a clay forge. Darrell used the created bloomery iron to forge replica or iron age axes that have been discovered in local archaeological digs.
